Don’t be a people THAT apart.

Some Christian Identists want to live on top of a mountain and let the world go to Hell, at least proverbially speaking. Of course, we know that we’re supposed to ‘Occupy until He comes’, which means to advance His kingdom. We’re not supposed to avoid bringing more people in. In fact, that’s our job.

Mark 2:17
When Jesus heard it, He said unto them, “They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Whenever we go off into the tall grass debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, or calendars or equally esoteric details which aren’t part of the two most important commandments that we “love God and love our people”, we appear more cultish, fringe, and weird to our people whom we are trying to win over. Is that advancing God’s kingdom? Is that being Christ-like? I don’t think so.

Paul said that he spoke to the Greeks as a Greek when he was among the Greeks, and to the Hebrews as a Hebrew, when he was among them. In other words, he put the feed down there where the chickens could get at it. He didn’t demand that they fly up and catch it in mid-air, halfway to Heaven already.

Too many of us act like High School guidance counselors fussing at elementary school kids over what colleges they should apply to, and why. Debating the varying qualities of different universities to third graders is like browbeating neophytes who just want to know that not all Christians worship the Jews about what day of the week is the one and only true Sabbath.

Luke 6:24:
“Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

Of course, we shouldn’t try to be all things to all people, but we should be one thing to our people: a way into the Kingdom, not a barricade separating them from it.
