Boycott The Boy Scouts
by Billy Roper
In the interests of full disclosure, I am a former Boy Scout. During the early 1980’s my troop (Den 1, Pack 171, Westark Area Council) went on mountain hikes, weeklong campouts, and wilderness survival training. We swam and learned archery, and carved and raced pinewood derby cars. I sold a lot of Trail’s End popcorn door-to-door, as a fundraiser. Actually, I even still have my uniform, with its Troop Historian and Patrol Leader (Pine Tree Patrol!) patches, and LOTS of merit badges. At the age of 12, I served in the 1984 Honor Unit as a Tenderfoot. To me, the Boy Scout Oath meant something:
“On my honor, I will do my best. To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”
After the national organization let in gay Scouts, a ground-shaking change pushed by Trump’s pick for Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, who was the President of the B.S.A. when the gates were opened in 2013, many Boy Scouts and Scout Masters wisely quit the organization. They argued that the group had abandoned two key components of the Scout Oath; that of doing one’s duty to God, and of keeping morally straight. More followed two years later when the decision was made to let homosexual men, who have a statistically proven higher proclivity to be child molesters, become Scout Masters, and go on overnight campouts with young boys. Now, transsexual and transgender things are going to allowed in, and to claim whatever gender identity they want.
The first featured ‘winner’ in this story, whose mother was involved in the fight to open this final door to depravity, is a young girl who self-identifies as a boy. She’ll be sharing a tent with pubescent, teenaged boys, now. Who knows, she might find out just what gender she is, after all.
Although the Boy Scouts of America has experienced a drastic decline in membership, down 40% since it began its liberal downward slide, this might be the end of the organization. It certainly SHOULD be. In fact, as a former Boy Scout, I am calling on all Americans to formally boycott the Boy Scouts, as well as their sister organization, the Girl Scouts, which in 2011 began admitting transsexual boys. Right, that means no more Thin Mints.
I have to. A long time ago, I took an Oath.
